Multi-Component Seismic

In recent years the use of multi-component seismic data has been of growing interest to the industry. Multi-component seismic data are acquired to perform seismic imaging simultaneously with P- and S-waves. The S-wave data can provide superior images particularly in areas where the P-wave image is obscured by gas clouds.Other potential benefits of multi-component seismic are currently areas of active research. These include its use for fracture characterization, time-lapse studies and seismic inversion. The GRC is actively engaged in research in these fields. Our collaboration with universities allows us to follow directly the latest scientific developments and to evaluate new technologies. For example, we are working with the Edinburgh Anisotropy Project to address certain aspects of processing multi-component seismic data. Furthermore, we seek to evaluate the merits and limitations of multi-component technologies with regard to a range of objectives.
