Introduction by Olivier Dubrule, grc manager

Olivier Dubrule"Welcome to the GRC website. The Geoscience Research Centre is a very special place, where 25 geologists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers, geomechanics engineers and earth modellers from 12 nationalities work on high-tech geoscience projects. As a former president of EAGE, a world leading organisation in multi-disciplinary integration, I am a firm believer that the key to innovation is cross-discipline collaboration. At the GRC, collaboration does not end at the workplace. To know more about our activities, please explore the website and if you are interested please don’t hesitate to contact us."

The Geoscience Research Centre (GRC) is based in Aberdeen (Scotland) and plays an important role in R&D supporting the TOTAL group’s exploration and production worldwide.  Established in 1991, the GRC is part of TOTAL E&P UK Ltd. TOTAL differs from many other oil companies, in that it recognises the value of applied research. The GRC is a key component in TOTAL’s network of international research centres and has the following main objectives:

• Operate Research projects in Geosciences

• Cooperate with UK-based universities and innovating companies on Research Partnership projects

• Provide technical support to the UK subsidiary

• Offer talented young geoscientists and engineers a variety of opportunities.

AN INTERNATIONAL TEAM

The GRC currently employs 25 full-time research scientists, supported by graduates on short-term internships, consultants, and post-docs.  These scientists work in close contact with universities, national research institutes and technology companies. The GRC strongly encourages its staff to publish their work and make presentations at international conferences.

The GRC is just one element of the TOTAL global network of expertise and knowledge.  Other specialist R&D centres are located in France, Norway, Canada, Qatar and the USA.  All have direct links to the company’s international R&D programme as well as to the local subsidiary.

The majority of current GRC staff have a PhD degree and are in their late-twenties to early thirties.  More than 12 nationalities are represented.
