What we do

TOTAL has a global presence in this sector, especially across the natural gas chain and our UK-based operations play a key role. 

Gas & Power covers the marketing and trading of natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and power, the trading of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), natural gas transportation and storage, as well as LNG re-gasification. The group also includes power generation from combined cycle gas plants and renewable energies as well as the production and sale of coal.

We are also a leading European gas, electricity and liquefied natural gas trader, marketing gas and power both in the UK and on the Continent – providing access to both the traded and end-users’ markets.

Trading

Trading provides European gas and power consumers with a secure, competitively priced supply. We create value by balancing the need to capitalise on upstream production with buyer expectations – buyers who include our own marketing subsidiaries who want to ensure energy supplies at the best prices.

As these markets have become more open and flexible, we’ve introduced new ways of balancing supply and demand, creating pricing formulae and hedging instruments.

Our trading teams are expert in managing specific physical price and credit. They have pioneered natural gas trading products that enable customers to protect themselves against market fluctuations.

Customers who want to take advantage of market conditions while carefully managing their costs have access to fixed prices or prices indexed to the most relevant indicator – such as fuel oil, diesel, International Petroleum Exchange (IPE) and Zeebrugge – or other instruments such as swaps, caps and collars.

Sales

Our industrial and commercial sales activities are handled by TOTAL Gas & Power, one of the leading UK gas suppliers, accounting for about 18 per cent of the UK's industrial and commerical gas supplies. 

With customers across the entire commercial and industrial spectrum, about 45,000 sites are supplied with a total of over two billion therms of gas. Competitive prices, a portfolio of innovative products to meet customers’ individual buying needs, high quality customer service and aftercare account management are the keystones for growth and competitive success.

We’ve also introduced flexible energy contracts of the sort more traditionally enjoyed by the largest energy users. These flexible approaches to energy procurement – including tracker products, standard index baseload and advanced index baseload and power traded products – are now available to all customers, whatever their size and industry sector.

We’ve also broadened our energy sales activities into the commercial electricity market. Our Electricity Retail division now supplies both “Non Half-Hourly” and “Half-Hourly” electricity to industrial and commercial customers across the UK.
