REFINERIES - MILFORD HAVEN REFINERY
Milford Haven refinery is a mid
size complex refinery of 4.2 million tons per annum
and is jointly owned with Murco Petroleum. Around 300
people from local towns work at the Milford Haven refinery
and TOTAL is one of the largest employers in west Wales.
In addition to making a commercial contribution to
the area, the company also works with local communities
to ensure that the environmental impact of the refinery
is minimised.
There is a continuous system of monitoring and controlling
emissions, effluent and noise, both at the refinery
itself and at the nearby tanker jetty, which are situated
within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. A strict
policy of safety assistance is followed for contracting
companies and all new arrivals undergo in-depth training
on both technical and safety issues as part of the
Health and Safety policy.
Milford Haven has a natural deep-water harbour that
enables tankers weighing up to 275,000 dead-weight
tons to dock. The jetty itself is 715 metres in length
and handles around 70 tankers each month of different
sizes. Thirteen pipelines connect the jetty to the
refinery inland, passing beneath Milford Haven Golf
Course.
