REFINERIES - LINDSEY OIL REFINERY
LOR
is the third largest oil refinery in the country processing
10 million tons of crude per annum. It was established
in the 1960s five miles from the River Humber. Its
geographic position allows it to take advantage of
discoveries in the North Sea and LOR was the first
refinery in the UK to process North Sea Oil.
Some of the most advanced refining and conversion
processes in the industry enable the refinery to process
over forty different types of crude oil. Continuous
investment in technology means that LOR can be flexible
and efficient in its activities and meet changes in
market demand.
Deep water berthing allows some of the largest crude
tankers in operation to dock and was a major factor
in the decision to build the 500-acre refinery site
there. Crude oil is imported via two pipelines, connecting
the 1,000-metre jetty to the refinery 5 miles away.
To ensure the health and safety of the refinery's staff,
contractors and neighbours, the highest safety engineering
standards have been incorporated into the design, construction,
operation and maintenance of the plant and all equipment. |
