The GRC is actively involved with various professional organisations worldwide and government agencies within the UK.
A list plus a brief description of these organisations is listed below.
Society of Petroleum Engineers
SPE is a professional association whose 60,000-plus members worldwide are engaged in energy resources development and production. SPE is a key resource for technical information related to oil and gas exploration and production and provides services through its publications, meetings, and online.
European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers
EAGE is a professional association for geoscientists and engineers. It is a European based organisation with a worldwide membership providing a global network of commercial and academic professionals to all members. The association is truly multi-disciplinary and international in form and pursuits.
All members of EAGE are professionally involved in (or studying) geophysics, petroleum exploration, geology, reservoir engineering, mining and civil engineering. The EAGE operates two divisions: the Oil & Gas Geoscience Division and the Near Surface Geoscience Division.
EAGE organises following activities for its members:
Conferences & Exhibitions; Workshops & Symposia; Educational Programmes (Short Courses); Publications (monthly magazine, scientific journals and extensive bookshop).
Olivier Dubrule, Manager of the GRC, was the 2004-2005 EAGE President.
Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG)
The Society of Exploration Geophysicists is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the science of geophysics and the education of applied geophysicists. SEG, founded in 1930, fosters the expert and ethical practice of geophysics in the exploration and development of natural resources, in characterizing the near surface, and in mitigating earth hazards. The Society, which has more than 23,000 members in 110 countries, fulfils its mission through its publications, conferences, forums, Web sites, and educational opportunities.
O. Dubrule, Manager of the GRC, was the SEG/EAGE Distinguished Instructor (DISC) for 2003.
American Association of Petroleum Geologists
Since its founding in 1917, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists has been a pillar of the world-wide scientific community. The original purpose of AAPG, to foster scientific research, to advance the science of geology, to promote technology, and to inspire high professional conduct, still guides the Association today.
Currently the world's largest professional geological society with over 30,000 members, AAPG provides publications, conferences, and educational opportunities to geoscientists and disseminates the most current geological information available to the general public.
