Safety,
Health & Environment (SHE)
In Exploration and Production, compliance with safety, health and environment (SHE) policies is the most important element in key performance indicators within the Company.
In 2002, our upstream sites were accredited to the International Environmental Management system standard, ISO 14001. This standard is recognised throughout the world as a mark of 'good business' practice' and as a genuine commitment to sustainable development. We are very proud of this achievement, and through maintenance of our management system, aim to achieve a continuous improvement in environmental performance. Our St Fergus site also holds the Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) accreditation
In an effort to improve safety, the Safe Un-Safe Acts (SUSA) system is used in all our areas of operation. The SUSA approach is part of our operational culture. It uses site observations to challenge working methods or conditions and identify situations that might lead to accidents. It is designed to improve safety by reminding people to think about what they are doing and to modify their behaviour if need be.
We have also taken a structured approach to health by signing up to the Scotland's Health at Work (SHAW) scheme. We have achieved the Bronze level awards at St Fergus and also on the Alwyn North installation and are now working towards silver awards at these sites and are also working towards the Bronze achievement at our other sites.
