Nuggets
 |
The
Nuggets field consists of four isolated subsea wells within
four gas-bearing accumulations.
It is located in the Northern North Sea, 400km
north-east of Aberdeen and 20km south of the
Dunbar platform. The Nuggets reservoirs contain
dry gas (99% methane)
with a low proportion of condensate and
water. It currently produces around 165 million
standard cubic metres of gas per day.

Export
The Nuggets wells are
controlled from the Dunbar platform and are linked by
subsea pipelines to
Alwyn North. From Alwyn, the gas is exported via the
Frigg pipeline system to our St Fergus Gas Terminal near
Peterhead.
An industry innovation
The equipment for a subsea well is installed on the seabed
above or near the reservoir and
operated remotely. Nuggets is operated and controlled
from Dunbar, 20km to the north. Nuggets (N1, N2 and N3)
at a cost of £128 million, is the largest Alwyn
Area development since the sanction of Dunbar in 1993.
Additional features
Electric and hydraulic power, controls, corrosion inhibitor and
methanol (hydrate inhibitor) is transported to Nuggets
by a 19km long pipeline from
the Dunbar platform. Maximum use has been made of existing
facilities to process and export Nuggets gas.
A technological leader
Development of Nuggets N4 is currently underway. It is
a single isolated subsea well, tied-back via a subsea pipeline to
the existing Nuggets N3 manifold. When completed this
67km long tie-back of the N4 accumulation will
be the longest tie-back in the UK sector of the North
Sea. First production from N4 is scheduled for Q4 2003.
When gas first flows from it, this will increase Nuggets
production to some 5.95 million standard cubic metres
of gas per day.
