Central
Graben
The Elgin and Franklin fields lie
in the Central Graben Area of the North Sea, 240km
east of Aberdeen. Elgin/Franklin is a major North Sea
development and is the largest to have been completed
on the UK Continental Shelf in over 20 years. It has
set the standard for future high pressure/high temperature
(HP/HT)
developments throughout the world.
TOTAL E&P UK's operations in this area mark the
beginning of a new era in the development of the North
Sea. Many challenges had to be overcome and many ground
breaking achievements were made in managing this £1.7
billion development. As operator of Elgin/Franklin,
Total ranks among the world leaders in developing such HP/HT reservoirs.
Safety
Health & Environment (SHE)
Safety is
at the heart of every new innovation and development.
An integral safety feature on Elgin and Franklin is
the Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) which
monitors all operations from the Central Control Room
on the Elgin PUQ.
It covers 33,000 separate control points throughout
the three platforms and relays data in real time via
satellite to the onshore support team. The onshore
team continually analyses the data on process and other
platform functions in order to supply the offshore
facilities with the necessary technical and logistic
support.
Protection
of the Environment is an integral part of our operations
in the Central Graben Area.
