The TOTAL Green School Awards aim to encourage excellence in environmental education.  Working in partnership with the Young Peoples Trust for the Environment (YPTE) we aim to work with young people of 5-11 years  to help them understand about energy and the environment,  motivate and inspire them to think about what they can do as individuals to improve the future of the planet (CO2, climate change, energy efficiency, managing waste) and offer the opportunity  to study a huge range of environmental topics which are strongly linked with the National Curriculum for England and Wales and the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence.  The four awards categories enable teachers to introduce environmental learning to subjects such as Art, English, History, Maths, Science, Technology and Geography.  Even better, they help to make learning fun.

Since the launch in 2006, we have seen the number of entries and children involved grow year on year, with 21,000 young people involved in 2011.  We are always amazed by the high standard of work and the amazing innovation shown in the projects submitted.  You can see some of our winning projects at http://tgsa.ypte.org.uk/winners.php

A highlight of the TOTAL Green School Awards is our National Final Ceremonies in London and Scotland.   Our 2011 National Final at London Zoo was endorsed by a number of celebrities and MPs.   Our National Winner was Castle Park Primary School with their stunning project on Madagascar.  A selection of photographs from the day can be seen below.
